With this short documentary, we want to share a bit of the life of three Oaxacan women, Doña Gloria and her daughters, Teresa (“Tere”) and Clara, who every day are dedicated to preparation of tortillas, memelas, atoles and more delights. Through images and between laughter and pain, they tell us about their work – indispensable in the daily lives of so many people but little visible and valued, particularly on film screens – but also about their struggles to live with dignity, without men or bosses.

Uncolonized Teaser – So called “Boarding Schools” for Native children in the US
This is a short clip from the larger film “Uncolonized”. This clip in particular shares some history on so called “Boarding Schools” for native children in the USA. These “schools” exercised the official U.S. government policy of “Kill the Indian, Save the Man” attempting to Americanize native children by brute force. If you don’t know anything about these boarding schools, this is a good place to start. If you do know about them, we hope this can help as a teaching tool.

Uncolonized is a short documentary film about a native family who decided never to enroll their two daughters into the public school system, choosing instead to homeschool them from birth. Chris is Potawatomi and Chasity is Navajo. Their daughters Natahney and Mimicah, ages 11 and 7 at the time of filming, carry both of their parents lineages in the their blood, but also in their way of being.
The film takes a critical look at the historical experiences of native children inside of the US public education system, and brings clarity to the decision of this family to keep their daughters out of the public school system, and therefore keep them UNCOLONIZED.
